Fan Art Publication
A collaborative editorial publication created with two classmates exploring the visual language, themes, and cultural presence of The Weeknd. The project combines research, layout, and image-making to translate a shared subject into a cohesive publication.
Concept
This project explores The Weeknd as both a musical figure and a visual persona through a collaborative editorial publication. Working with two classmates, the goal was to create a publication that captured the mood, themes, and imagery associated with his music while translating those ideas into a clear visual system.
The publication combines research, typography, image selection, and layout to build a cohesive reading experience. Rather than simply documenting information, the project focuses on how editorial design can reflect tone, atmosphere, and visual identity through sequencing and composition.
Process
The project was developed collaboratively, with each group member contributing research, visual material, and layout ideas that shaped the final publication. Because the subject already carries such a strong visual identity, an important part of the process was finding a way to organize that material into a system that felt cohesive rather than repetitive.
Through discussion, testing, and revision, we developed layouts that balanced imagery and text while maintaining a consistent mood throughout the publication. The process focused on building continuity across spreads so the book felt unified even while bringing together multiple contributors and perspectives.
Results
The final result is a collaborative editorial publication that presents research and visual exploration through a unified design system. By combining text, imagery, and sequence, the publication reflects both the atmosphere of The Weeknd’s work and the strengths of collaborative design.
The project demonstrates how editorial design can be used to translate a shared cultural subject into a structured publication while maintaining consistency across multiple contributors.
